Foreign nationals in Italy holding a valid residence permit for study, internship or training can now convert this permit into a work permit without being subject to a quota (the last quota was set at 2,370 individuals per year). Foreign nationals with permits for study in Italy can convert to a work permit even before they have completed their course; however, foreign nationals with permits for training courses or internships may only convert their permits after the completion of their program. In all cases, the foreign national must either have a job offer from an employer for work that exceeds 20 hours per week or, if they are seeking to work as a freelancer, they must present documentation related to the planned activity and show that their income will be higher than the minimum level required by law.
